Decision details
On June 25, 2024, we issued an Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) to JP Grease Trap Service Inc. for a transfer and processing station for fat, oil , and grease from industrial and commercial food sources. The Site is located at 4697 Christie Drive, in the Township of Lincoln, Ontario.
The site will only accept fat, oil, and grease from industrial and commercial food sources. No hazardous wastes, pathological wastes, agricultural wastes or sewage shall be received. The total maximum capacity at the Site at any time is 46,380 litres. The maximum amount of waste received per day is 26,000 litres with a total maximum amount of waste received 3,500,000 litres per year. Waste shall be stored on Site for a maximum of 2 weeks
Approved processes include:
- transfer of waste;
- bulking;
- separation of grit and greywater from waste; and
- discharge of greywater to sanitary sewers.
Transfer can occur from 7:00am-8:00pm Monday to Saturday, and processed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Effects of consultation
One comment was received expressing concern for the preexisting odours in the area, and the potential for odour issues to worsen with the addition of this Site.
Response: The conditions of this ECA require the Owner to submit an Odour Management Plan to the District Manager for Approval. This plan must identify any potential sources of odour, and preventative procedures. All processing and transfer at this Site will be completed fully indoors. Trucks will be washed down to reduce the amount of residual waste brought outside, and any trucks waiting to transfer that are odourous shall be staged inside.

Original proposal
Proposal details
JP Grease Trap Service Inc. is seeking approval to operate a material transfer site to accept and consolidate used oil and grease materials generated through commercial establishments across Ontario. The transfer station will be at 4697 Christie Drive in the Town of Lincoln, Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.
Incoming waste will be transported by various Ministry approved haulers including JP Grease. The site is seeking approval to receive liquid, semisolid, or solid non-hazardous food grade oil and grease materials only. No hazardous waste or other solid wastes will be received at the site. An existing portion of the current building will be used for indoor storage and transfer of oil and grease waste. Waste will be stored in holding tanks within a containment area in the building.
JP Grease is requesting the flexibility to have internal operations onsite 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; however, the waste receiving and shipping hours will be between the hours of 7 am and 8 pm, and the Site will only receive materials from the haulers during these hours.
The maximum amount of material to be stored on-site is limited to 46,380 litres. The Site will accept a maximum daily quantity of 27,280 litres of oil and grease. Up to 13,640 litres of material can be removed daily; therefore, the Site will accept a maximum of 3.5 million litres per year.
