We finalized criteria, methods and mapping for the Natural Heritage System for the Growth Plan area for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. This supports the Growth Plan and promotes landscape level management to reverse the trend of habitat loss in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Land use planning is a joint process between First Nations and Ontario to decide how land and water can be used. We are working with North Spirit Lake First Nation to develop a community based land use plan. The plan will identify which lands will be dedicated to protection and which will be open for potential economic development.
We have made small changes to the boundary of Sandbanks Provincial Park. These changes add acquired land to the park, allow the transfer of a boat launch property to the County of Prince Edward and allow the County of Prince Edward to widen a section of County Road 12 to a standard width.

We're providing incentives to eligible businesses that want to buy low-carbon commercial vehicles and technologies to reduce emissions. Our goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the movement of goods and non-passenger related services by encouraging a shift towards low-carbon fuels and emission reducing technologies.
The Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017, was passed on December 12, 2017. Once in force, it will give communities a stronger voice in land use planning and replace the Ontario Municipal Board with the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.

We introduced Bill 139 - the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017, on May 30, 2017. The changes identified in the bill respond to the province-wide consultation the government undertook as part of the Ontario Municipal Board Review.
We introduced a new penalty under Waste Diversion Transition Act to help ensure compliance with the legislation and its regulations. This will help to make sure the environment remains protected during the transition to the new producer responsibility framework.
On November 24, 2017, we amended the energy efficiency regulation with new and enhanced efficiency standards for 12 products. The amendment aligns Ontario’s energy efficiency standards with leading North American jurisdictions, helps reduce the environmental impact of energy use and encourages energy conservation.
