Lafarge Canada Inc. - Changes to the site plan for a pit or quarry

This notice was updated on March 15, 2017 to advise the public that there has been no change to the status of the proposal and it is still being considered. No additional opportunity for comment is being provided for at this time.

Description of Instrument

Lafarge Canada Inc. operates a Class A pit (Roehner Pit – ARA licence #606862) with extraction occurring above the water table on a 32.2 hectare ARA licence. The pit is located approximately 15 Km southwest of the City of Orillia. The licensee has applied to amend the site plan. The applied- for amendments are outlined below:

1. reduction of the northern setback to 0 m. Lafarge owns the adjacent property that abuts this boundary
2. remove fencing requirements along the northern and western license boundary. Lafarge owns the adjacent property that abuts this boundary
3. removal of the berm along the western boundary
4. a variance to Provincial Standard 5.16 regarding topsoil movement. Lafarge proposes to amend the site plan to allow topsoil to move between this site and the adjacent licensed site (ARA licence #3553) to facilitate rehabilitation. No topsoil or overburden will be removed from the properties
5. Lafarge proposes to amend the phasing as shown on the site plan. The current approved phasing consists of 6 phases that proceed clockwise around the site. The proposed phasing will consist of two phases that head south-bound and then west-bound. This will consistently keep an extraction face between the operation and the neighbouring properties on the 6th Concession to screen for noise
6. Lafarge proposes to create an internal haul route across unlicensed property owned by Lafarge between the Roehner and Oro pits to facilitate movement of material and equipment between sites. The application is to reflect a new entrance exit
